Brief McGraw Hill Handbook [click for site]

Check out this site for additional resources to your handbook and to access all grammar quizzes.

• To take the quizzes, click on “Login” in the upper left corner of the page. You should see in the left column a section that says “Need to Register?” with two buttons below.
• Click on “I am a Student” and then click on link that says “I have a registration code that came with my book”.
• In the field, copy and paste the following code:
  • G8JR-Y9P7-TTEH-9487-THW4
• Enter in your email and your password information, and it will take you to next page. Select United States as the country, NV as the state, and Truckee Meadows Comm Coll as your school.
• Toward the bottom of the next screen, you will need to enter the following section code for our course (copy and paste):
  • E4C-DA-9AE
• You should now be inside your online course. You will see the assignments listed on the front page. From the course homepage, select the section you need from navigation to access the content you need to complete your assignment(s).

Smarthinking: Online Tutoring and Learning Center [click for site]

Smarthinking is an online tutoring center that provides “personalized learning assistance” in various subject areas and in writing.

Smarthinking is easy to use:

• Go to the website: http://smarthinking.com
• Enter the username: TMCCFall08
• Enter the password: Achieve
• Complete the Registration Form and choose a “new” user name and password. “Password Hint” = a word to remind you of your password.
• Note: Credit card information is not necessary. You are entitled to 10 hours of free tutoring assistance each semester. Each essay submitted accounts for 30 minutes.
• Once you register, print a copy of your registration form after your information has been submitted.

Once you have registered you will receive a “confirming” e-mail welcoming you to Smarthinking. Print this e-mail for future use.

To Submit an essay:

• Go to Smarthinking.com, log on, then click on the “Submit Your Writing” small drop down menu and click on Essay Center, then click on “Tell Me How.” A SUBMIT YOUR WRITING form will appear.
• Complete all the red-marked boxes and other information. Note: It’s best to check “Grammar and Mechanics” and “Organization” or “Main Idea/Thesis.”
• Go to “Upload Writing” and click on BROWSE. Go to the location of your essay (floppy, my documents etc.). Be sure to read the file instructions under the Browse box.
• Once you have submitted your essay, at the e-mail address you entered on your Registration Form, you will receive a confirming e-mail that your essay has been received.
• Once you have received an e-mail notice that your essay has been returned from support@smarthinking, click on ‘Markup’ then ‘SAVE’ your essay to your computer. Follow suggestions and directions. As Smarthinking indicates, you can resubmit your essay for evaluation.
